High school science labs suck

This news link brought high school science classes to mind. In 4 years with science classes that had labs, not a single lab experiment was enlightening or useful. Did anyone at all ever have a useful lab?

Well back in 9th grade we turned pennies silver and gold using zinc and crap. We were able to turn around and sell them to classmates for about a quarter apiece, so I guess it was somewhat useful.

I had fun disecting a pig fetus in my lab, along with a couple of other disections in my Anatomy class.

My entire Biology 2 class did a study of diversity in a local watershed to measure the after effects of pollution. (This study was repeated every couple of years by a different class to gather ongoing data).

So, umm yeah, I had a useful high school science experience.

That's pretty awesome, I wish we had done something like that. My high school bio labs consisted of dissecting bugs, frogs, and fish.

The freshman Earth Science class tried to grow tubers in our chemistry lab. We stuck them in the bunsen burners and thought it was funny. 🙁

In Chemistry we threw giant blocks of sodium into a pond and watched them blow up! But that was the only really interesting thing we did.

A buddy of mine lost his sense of smell for 5 years because of JH biology. they were told to sniff a substance and say what it was. he had a cold and couldn't smell anything. so he brought it right to his face and took a long hard draw, it fried his nose.

labs in highschool were terrible and I went to a private school

It was me doing all the work to get the grade while my "group" members watched
