high school reunions.....

for those that have been to one... how was the experience?

is it a waste of money to go?

what did some of your old classmates end up doing for living?

For those that haven't been to a high school reunion, are you planning to go?

are they supposed to take place 5 years at the earliest? it's been 3 years and i've already dropped contact with most of my hs classmates...

Yeah, never heard of anything less than 10 years.

When do they stop having them? 40 years after graduation? Seems like it'd be awkward if there was a 60 year reunion for the class of 1944 and only five old people showed up...

I think it depends on your high school experience. It might be worth going to one if you had a great time in high school.

my wife went to her 5 and ten year class reunions

i am going to my 20th this summer, i missed the 10 year back in '94

I'll never go to my reunion. Never, I didn't like anyone from high school. If by chance I do go, it would be to tell off everyone that caused me the pain I went through in high school.

The 10 year was cool but the asshats were still asshats, the losers, well, you'll see for yourself. I was too busy to go to the 20 and the 30 seems like a waste of time too.

YMMV though.

i went to my 5 year & it was very depressing. some people had died &
others had clearly gone downhill due to drinking/drugs.

My wife and I both went to the same high school and our 10 year is coming up this summer and we have to make the same decision in a couple weeks. We're still kind of ambivalent about the whole thing, especially since it'll cost us ~$200 and we'd probably go to only one of the three scheduled events over the course of the weekend.

We still live in the same general area and bump into old classmates from time-to-time so it's not like we're across the country and never see anyone anymore. But for the most part, we really don't care that much as we still keep in touch with the few friends from high school that we really care about. The rest of the people I really couldn't care less about to be quite honest. I had a good time in high school, but it wasn't like it was the high point of my life (and after checking the attendee list on the website I have a feeling a lot of the people that go to the 10-year see high school that way.) High school was fun, but college was EASILY the pinnacle of that period in our lives.

We're leaning toward not going right now. My best friend whom I've known since high school is across the country doing his residency and my wife's best friend from high school is also across the country and most likely won't be attending.

i might go to the 10th
it depends on if any of my friends will go and how far away i live.
last year was my 5th and i didnt hear anything about one.
so i assume 10th is when they start doing it.

I have never gone to one. Chances are the people who will be there are the ones who either loved high school, were big jocks, or were part of the popular crowd. Most of them look back at high school as the best time in their lives and enjoy reliving the memories.

I didn't go to the last one though three different people called me asking me to go. No offense, but I haven't talked to those people in years, so I couldn't see any point in going.

I do see one high school classmate regularly (a neighbor), and she attends all the reunions. From what I gather, the big attraction is to see how much the popular girls went downhill and how fat the jocks have gotten, and for the unpopular kids who have been successful to rub it in the faces of the people who treated them like crap back then.

my 10 year anniversary is this year. No news if there will be one. I live halfway across the country now, and only have contact with 2 other people i went 2 high school went, and they are just as far. If its not on classmates.com, then i prob wont know about it. But i would love to go, see what everyone is doing.
My fiance's 10 year anniversary was a few weeks ago, but she couldnt go-shes 9 months prego🙂

Never tried to keep in touch with the old system.
Was in the area 7-8 years later, talked to some faculty and that was it.

i went to my 10 year reunion in '98 and it was fun. i would definitely recommend bringing your significant other or at least a friend who can pretend to be such since everyone else will and at some point when everyone sits down to dinner or gets up for dancing everyone else will be coupled up. that was the only problem with mine.

it was very interesting seeing what happened to everyone. i even got contact info from a girl i hadn't spoken to since high school who was working near me in midtown at playboy 🙂. she was married but it was still cool hanging out with her occasionally for lunch and visiting the nyc office and playing on their ny softball team 🙂

of course, ymmv

mine is ina few years...
me and my g/f will go because it will be fun to see who is doing what.
heh

and we can brag. 😀

Same feelings here. If I go it will be to tell off all those kinds of people, and then also show them that I did something with my life. I plan to drive up in a very expensive car to rub it in even more. When the time comes I plan to tell off all the people who doubted I would succeed, those who caused me pain, and those that felt I wasn't as "smart" as they were.
