High School Graduation

I am going to graduate high school in June. I've heard countless accounts of how boring, from a spectator's perspective, high school graduation is, but I've never actually been to one. Would I regret it down the road if I skipped mine? Everybody I talk to says I would, but I'm pretty sure I can think of a better place to spend a Friday night than my high school gym. I don't understand why everyone holds in it such high regard. It's freakin' high school, not med school. Graduating isn't a huge accomplishment. What am I missing here?

I am graduating in June as well. People just like to have sentimental things to remember. I could care less. I see people at my school buying > $100 on stupid things like '02 coffee mugs and things. I ask them why they do it and they say "This is a turning point in our lives. We need to remember it ..." (I get bored and change the subject. All of the things that you are supposed to do/enjoy in High School I don't. I guess I'm weird. To me college graduation is the important one. ?

How much less? A lot? Because then you care quite a bit! ;)

Thats me exactly. :)

I was talking to my music teacher today and she says ask me if I play sports or have ever been in the band. I told her I only played soccer and ran track as a freshman but haven't really done anything school related since. She looked shocked and horrified. She told me that I should get into some extra curricular activities. I told her I take classes at the college after school. I guess I am a nerd, but why is school more concerned with extra curicular activities than with education? I know it's HS, but when applying for college it was hard to fill out because I had not been in many organized things. I have had a job for about a year, but no organized activities. Even though they say so, 90% of all faculty don't give a flip about education. Football is the #1 concern around here.

FIRST OF ALL: It's "I couldn't care less". Maybe you shouldn't be graduating? OK ignore me I'm the resident ass.

Anyway will you regret not going? Yes. For about a week. Then you'll forget, and not care. I'm 24. Do you know how often I think back to my highschool graduation? This is the second time I've thought of it since graduating. Sure it's a turning point in your life, just as turning 19 is a turning point, and buying your first car is a turning point, first kiss, kid, marriage, taking a right at a red light. Though I don't intend to belittle the point if for some reason you really don't want to go to graduation you'll get over it. Trust me. Skipping your own marriage is one thing, skipping your own high school graduation is not something you'll cry about on your death bed.

Did high school mean nothing to you? Hell, i went just for the fact of what it represented, FREEDOM! Of course there are better things to do, but you only graduate from high school ONCE IN YOUR LIFE!!! DONT MISS IT!

Hehe, thank GOD I only had to go to highschool once. Some people say that school was their best years. I'm a living example of the fact that this isn't always true. If you're like me and you hated school you stand a high probability of enjoying life more in the future. I absolutely love that I'm done school. I went to university (which was approx 5X better than highschool), and now that i'm done with that my life is twice as good again. University is definitely some good times, but I am happier now I think...

I skipped my high school graduation, and that was in '97. No biggie, in fact I'm glad I did, because I still get to make fun of my friends who did go, buncha sellouts. :D

Oh yeah and I skipped my Senior Prom to go to a NASCAR race, and my Junior Prom for a Bob Dylan concert. :D I did go to my college graduation though, it was stupid. :(

I'm planning on going to mine. It's the last time i'm going to see some of these people and I want to remember how much a waste of space half my class was.

Yup you just basically summed up high school graduation. **Rant mode** My high school graduation sucked. On top of that, a neighboring high school graduates at our school every year because they don't have a stadium. And their graduation was a hell lot better than ours. We had pigeons, they had fireworks, 2 projectors to show slideshows and videos and other good ish.... Stupid school... **End rant mode**

Good call, especially for the reason you mentioned :) I kept in contact with most of my HS class for about a year but after first year university every one of us stopped caring about everyone else. This is how these things are.

I wanted to skip my graduation but I kind of felt my parents wanted to see it.

It was not great...........

Maybe 50 years ago it was important, but this is the era of "must go to college," so hs isn't really the pivotal step into adulthood as it used to be.

If your parents aren't into it, I wouldn't bother.

I hope you're right, in that University will be 5x better than HS. If not I'm in for a rough four years...

Very, very correct.

Quebec, CAN is the only place I'm aware of between Can and US that it is NOT legal. Am I missing something? I did it in AL with a cop beside me yesterday but he didn't pull me over...

No you got it, CA, and I think AZ and only a couple other states lets you make right turns on red legally.

yeah i'm with you there. i HATED high school. i ended up going to an "alternative" school (laymans terms: 80% of the teachers are cool as hell and you have less homework, oh yeah, and the teachers there actually give a sh-t too, unlike regular HS)

i could give a crap less about anything i did in high school. i look forward to college (actually learning things i give a sh-t about), but right now i'm just idling, and its cool, except at the moment i dont have a joB!!!!!! but thats just temporary (hopefully)
