Should high school cheerleading coach Carlie Becker have been fired over her Playboy pictures, which she had posed for before coaching the team?

Casa Roble High School?s 21-year-old high school coach, Carlie Becker, was fired, after the school came across online Playboy pics taken under the alias of ?Carlie Christine.?

Beck?s pictures were uncovered when Playboy online named Carlie Christine ?Cyber Girl of the Week.? San Juan Unified School District, where Casa Roble is located, officials discovered ?Christine? was also ?Becker,? and it ultimately cost the young coach her job at Casa Roble High School.

Coach Becker was honest from the beginning and openly admitted to her previous modeling before being employed. She has assured that all of the photos were taken before being employed the California high school.

The news of Becker?s firing has shocked her cheerleaders and their parents.

Parent Richard Spradling explained to Associated Press that the incident was brought on by ?jealousy issues or whatever between parents and other students.?

Susan Calhoon, another cheerleading parent, believes that the complaint originated from an irritated parent seeking revenge after her daughter wasn?t allowed to try out for the team last week. Try outs have since been canceled, but are rescheduled for this week under the district?s assistant cheerleading coach.

Sue Feather describes the situation as an unfortunate learning experience for the girls saying, ?Be careful what you get out there because it will follow you all the way through your life. And this is a great example for this gal and it?s a great teaching moment as a mom for my child.?

Becker agrees with parents that teens should be cautious as to what they post online.

?I went into this understanding that it would be on the internet and I think it?s important that anything you put on the internet will be there the rest of your life and there is access to it, so it?s important to understand that,? Carlie Becker told the AP.

Many of Becker?s cheerleaders are upset over Beck?s termination and feel that the school shouldn?t have fired Beck over the Playboy photos as they were a part of her personal life as well as in her past.

Becker wishes to persist with her modeling career leaving behind the racy photos.

While understanding and expecting the district to fire her, she has had a difficult time with losing her coaching job after building such strong relationships with the girls and their parents. Becker has expressed much gratitude and appreciation to all who have shown her support.

Our Take:
Despite the difficult situation for Coach Carlie Becker, it has given her girls a personal example of how anything they post online will follow them forever. Nothing goes away after it?s been put up in cyber space. Even if you click delete, it?s still out there. These girls are sure to be cautious now.

firings like these just piss me off.

IMO people should not be fired for anything they do in their personal lives outside of work...
As long as it isnt illegal.

Its a great lesson for those kids to learn, IMHO the firing was worth that.

What lesson would that be, that America is sexually repressed?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, the truth comes out. The parents and student (former head cheerleader) that brought this to the attention of the school are on the Today Show right now.

The head cheerleader was kicked off the team for three unexcused absences. The mom/dad and cheerleader THEN bring to the attention of school officials the naked pics. It appears that most of the kids in the school had already come across the pics and didn't think much of it. They pretty much did this to get back at her.

The mom and dad came across as total douches -- as did the girl.

Yea this was posted before and the reason they brought this up was they were kicked off the team.

Depending on her contract she may have a good case for suit. Since these pics were known well before and they did not cause a problem firing her for them well after the fact weakens their case.

I have a feeling that kindergarten parents don't want to see their kid's teacher out doing body shots on the Chili's bar...

Any self-respecting parent with a "kid filter" on their kid's PC wouldn't ever have to worry about this.

And most pictures like this end up on facebook anyway -- what kindergarten kid has a facebook page to even see such pics?

This is not something you will get anywhere with discussing it on a messageboard that skews to teens and twenty somethings. Come back and ask NSF4 and sao123 20 years from now how they would feel if their 18 year old daughters are tossing nudies of themselves up on the internet.

If she's 18, then that's her business as an adult. I may not like it or be proud of it, but it's her business and she can deal with the consequences.

Isn't this grounds for a law suit, firing with no probable cause?

Lucky kids.

She can sue all she wants but doubtful she will win.

How much HR experience do you have? Have you ever had to fire an employee in California?

Despite the fact that California is technically an "at will" state, they are very worker-friendly and there's a good chance that she would prevail in a lawsuit.

You also missed the most basic statutory exception:
not following own termination procedures ? often, the employee handbook or company policy outlines a procedure that must be followed before an employee is terminated. If the employer fires an employee without following this procedure, the employee may have a claim for wrongful termination.

I can guarantee you that the school district has a fairly byzantine procedure and there's a strong chance that at least parts of that procedure were not followed to the letter in this case.

why does it matter what the teacher does at a bar (as long as it isnt illegal). She could be a great teacher in the classroom and also a party girl outside. As long as the kids arent exposed to her party side, which they shouldnt be since they arent going to the bar, who cares if she is doing body shots at a bar

I'd like to see a coalition of people who know how bogus this was dedicate themselves to making the lives of the accusing family(s) and those who fired her a living hell. I'd like to see all involved face so much hatred and ridicule that they take their own lives in a fit of despondency, or at the very least be forced to move and never recover a good life. If things like that would just happen enough, and get the media attention they deserve, then very VERY few people would be stupid enough to pursue this sort of thing in the future.

That's far more fair and democratic than direct action against those involved. People should learn that while they have the choice to cause a ruckus, other people have the right to make them wish they hadn't.

I'm 36, I have kids, and I'm going to be a teacher (at least for a short bit till I'm fired for saying things like this). The firing was wrong. ANY firing over personal life choices is wrong. The people involved should not only be ashamed, they should be hounded and treated mercilessly for starting it all.
