High school boys beat womens US hockey team

They played last night (Wednesday) in Minnesota. Here's the link on the story from our local paper. Sounds like it would have been a good game to watch.

And a good quote:

Team captain Bobby Anacabe, a senior left wing, said, "It was awkward to go into a corner and not look for the big hit." But he added that the boys found they were less handicapped than they thought they would be by not being able to check.

i'm thinking the no-check rule hurt the women's team more than the high school team...

Even so, checking shouldn't be a make-or-break part of the game.
Checking is very much part of the game. It rushes passes and keeps players out of the play... so if the checking team plays good position to support, they have a great chance of owning the puck the majority of the time.

Run-n-gun (without checking) is mostly about who can complete passes and finish better. And clearly the HS team isn't your avg HS since they got this opportunity to play a national team. EDIT>>> And this is in Minnesota... hockey capital of the US.

I'm still surprised a nationally-trained team lost to amateurs.

That makes no sense. The only reason it was no checking is because they don't have checking in womens hockey, at least not at the Olympic or high school level.

"Checking is illegal in women's hockey"

It must have been a fast game with no checking being played on Olympic size sheet of ice. That is one of the very few arenas that I know of in MN that has Olympic size ice for a high school team.

Meh, seems cheap and dirty to me. I love the fights though 😀

Do they get paid to play? No? they're amateurs.

So, looks like Canada will be winning the Women's Hockey Gold again then. 😀

...beat Team Canada last weekend in a warmup to the 2006 Winter Olympics

not so sure about that

The CDN's beat the US two days earlier, in Minnesota 4-2, so I'm sure it'll be a tight race.
