High resolution sensor => low res pics

I've been looking at new cameras lately, mostly enthusiast compacts, and I'm wondering if any cameras bin the sensor output of high pixel count sensors when making lower res images or if they just resize in software after the fact?

If the exposure time doesn't change, it's probably pretty safe to say that no binning is going on.

I'm not aware of any real pixel binning going on outside of that nokia pureview thing.
