high res textures for ut99?

There is a 2nd cd in some versions of UT that had higher resolution textures for use with S3 graphics cards. I dont have the 2nd CD. How much space do the textures take up? Would it be piracy or against Anandtech rules to send them to me or give me a link to them?

I had the GOTY edition of UT, and it only has one CD. I never heard of a second CD. I believe you are referring to the Metal API.

I have the original release of UT and it does have 2 CDs. The second CD does in fact have the high res. textures.

I never noticed that it made a huge difference to my game. I was always running too fast to enjoy the scenery. 😱

I noticed a big difference anyway...I wouldn't play UT without the high-res S3TC textures (and detail textures) 🙂

Back in the day when I played UT I was like the quake fiends, I ran at 1024x768x32 but I left off many settings to improve my FPS. My hardware was far less than top of the line back then (AMD K6-II/III and a Voodoo2). 🙂 I ought to install the old UT and max everything out so I can see what I missed back then.

I was tempted to reinstall it simply because I remembered low-grav fun in Hall of Giants. But I recently purchased Farcry, and apparently it has Assault...

I will see how big they are zipped, if it's less than 250MB I'll send them to you if you can give me a place to upload to. (Only a 256k upload speed)

Ignore that. My CD is buggered (scrathed), so I can't do much, some textures won't even copy.

Well if you can give me somewhere to upload a 320MB or so RAR to, I will send them, there's one texture missing though (GenEarth.utx) because it will not copy across.

Btw, the high rez textures don't seem to work on ATI cards. I know it worked perfectly on my Geforce3 a few years ago, but when trying it on my Radeon, the high rez textures don't appear in game.

Define "new"? Was there anything new released within a year's timeframe that might have fixed ATI incompatibilities? Cause the same opengl.dll that I used with my Geforce 3 doesn't work.
