I dont know why people think HD will magically make 1280x720 look nice.
Run games at the resolution on your computer and let us know how great it looks.

Compared to 1600X1200 or bigger, that rez is so 2002.

I don't know what kind of super-sub-system you have, but I have an overclocked x1900xt, and I can't run more than 1280*1024 in new games without dropping below acceptable frame rates.

i have an x850 XT and run most games at 1280x1024.. wtf are you playing?:p

Oblivion, FEAR, Company of Heroes.

My stock clocked X1900XT runs Oblivion and FEAR at 1680x1050, with some AA and HDR plenty playable.

You have a chuck-patched Oblivion with HDR+AA at 1680*1050? With all the settings turned up all the way? At more than 40FPS?

Either that's a load of crap or I'm doing something wrong.

I do run ugrids=10, which doesn't help, and I have some texture packs and mods... but there's no way I could run your resolution with HDR+AA... not even close.

Looks fine to me. The PS3 doesn't have a huge amount of RAM to play with. GPU power is probably also a lot more limited than people assume.

it has 256megs dedicated to the gpu...

btw i think sony's biggest fault, which they were lucky to get away with on the ps2, is that they simply didn't have a well developed library and tools for developers to use. They made sure the PSX launched with one, so i don't understand why they think they could go barebones on the Ps3....especially since MS is giving good competition when it comes to api development.

even though i prefer a ps3...one of my friends has a friend who works in the industry and said that the ps3 does take forever to develop for - but when they try the same stuff on xbox it is so much easier and they were suprised at how little effort they needed. However, they are still cranking at the ps3 simply because that is where the big bucks are.

sony can stick 9 cores, bla bla bla...but they should still have a decent library for people to use that they are constantly optimizing and updating so more powe can be squeezed out of the system.

explains the $80+ price on the games
