Damn.... why do all the best-looking games have to be so darned gory and violent? :frown:
Can't people put this kind of technology into something a little less crappy in genre?

Nope. I'm sorry, but there is just no other way to make that stuff look cool without being able to kill or be killed.

When I want "nice" I go to sunday school.

When I want to blow something up, I go to the PC

While there are some who get this concept reversed, I like the order of things just fine! :D

I don't know, I'm really not that impressed. It doesn't look that much better than Return to Castle Wolfenstein or MoH:AA. Besides, if it's anything like the first two, which I assume it will be, I doubt it will bring much more to the table than pretty graphics. Deus Ex II, now that's what I'm talking about. Good graphics (I believe it's based on a slightly less powerful Unreal II engine) and, if it carried over from the first one, great gameplay.

Interesting... Let's just hope it was running on a Radeon 8500 and not a FireGL or some other megabuck ubercard.

I wonder if it was demonstrated with the current Radeon or the R300, the next gen card from ati.

Very impressive to say the least! But I'm starting to doubt Mr Carmack's mental health here... Maybe he's just seen Se7en and Hellraiser one time too many ;)

I remember the first time I saw Doom, when the demo came out, I thought it was virtual reality.

Ah, to be 10 again.

Looks like a top-notch 3D engine there.

Fear has a lot to do with experiencing something frightning for the first time. We've had some great scary games (Doom 1.0, System Shock, Undying) in recent memory that covered a lot of territory so I hope id has some new tricks to show us.

Doom 3 will set (hell, it already has to me) a new standard in 3D gaming graphics. Once I play that game I won't want to play anything else, even if it is as bad as Daikatana.

Its too sexy looking. I anticipate this game more than any other game, simply because of my fond memories of the original Doom series when I was a kid and the beautiful, yet scary, graphics. Deus Ex 2 looks like crap in comparison...but I'm sure the gameplay will own on that one :D

Violence is golden, and some people need to lay off the anal probes. Chill out Daemon_UK...gregor was only joking. Fvcking brits.

You're kidding, right?

MOH:AA looks like Wolfenstein(the original) by comparison.
Not to say anything bad about Wolf though, of course ;)

Oh and it won't be neither DX7 nor DX 8.1, Carmack uses OpenGL(Thank you Carmack, long live open standards)

[edit] Oh and I HATE File Planet, why can't they upload it to a few real sites.[/edit]

Everytime a game is announced or screenshots are released everybody goes "wow, that looks awesome". I'm 99.9% sure that those are NOT in-game shots; in the extremely unlikely case that they are, I can assure you that they are not running on a 2.2GHz P4 and an ATI 8500 (lmao @ that spec)!

Leaked screenshots always look amazing, War3 shots looked amazing (look at the game now, pathetic), SoF II shots looked amazing (played the game yesterday, it's just like playing Q3 ...), UT 2003 shots still look amazing and so on. Did anybody watch the UT2003 presentation on a german (I think) show? Do you remember what resolution the game was running at? Let me remind you, 640x480. That's what you get to play, you don't get to play the screenshots unfortunately.

And those of you who get all excited about Parhelia kai start dreaming of playing the latest game at the highest resolution with x256 AA and 1024 tap anisotropic filtering on 3 screens ... wake up. Parhelia is said to have similar performance to the GeForce 4 Ti4600. A GeForce 4 Ti4600 will never, ever be able to make Doom III look like that, what makes you think that Parhelia will be able to render x3 that and give you more than 0.1fps?!

Carmack stated that they were aiming for a GF3 vanilla to be able to play with all the bells and whistles at 800x600@30 FPS.

[edit]
Oh and does anyone have any mirrors for that movie?
If I can get my hands on it, I can throw up a mirror on my site, but with the time FilePlanet is taking, I won't be getting it for some time :|

I think the GeForce 4 can handle Doom III, just don't expect to play it at 1280 x 1024 and 60 FPS ;) More likely 800X600, probably 30-40FPS. I find that to be acceptable, while other people with cash to buy the latest videocard every six month don't.
