Before you start, I'm not claiming this is proof of a relationship with Saddam.
I just think it supports the possibility that Al-Qaida is involved with the attacks against US troops.

Interesting that CNN still doesn't have anything about this.
Apparently the Kobe Bryant case is more newsworthy.

EDIT: It actually looks like most of the networks don't have the full stories on their websites yet .

Sure, AQ is in Iraq now that we are. Why not take the jihadist cause to Iraq? That's where the U.S. military is -- provides a live exercise for those graduating AQ recruits and sure beats the obstacle course and/or monkey bars.

Did you read the article?

"U.S. officials believe Hasan Guhl arrived in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein and acknowledge there still appears to be no direct terrorist link between al-Qaida and Saddam."

Edit: but yes, they are suggesting al Qaeda may be behind some of the recent attacks. I don't think this is surprising. There was a report a few weeks ago that bin Laden said they were taking their fight from Afghanistan to Iraq.

Iraq's like a Jihad magnet after collapse of the regime, Al Qaida operatives go anywhere where they can take American lives.

As I said, I'm not arguing that this means there were ties before the war.
It's just that this seems to be the first real evidence of the US claim that some of the "Iraqi resistance" might be directe by Al-Qaida rather than just anti-american Iraqis.

Yes, I read the article.
Did you even read my statements that you quoted?
I'll bold it for emphasis.

You may not believe it, but just because I post something doesn't mean I want to start an argument on the war.
Again:
I'm not saying this is evidence of any relationship before the war.

Probably Iraqi resistance LEAD by Al Qaida operatives. The Iraqi's have no experience with formal experience with terrorism, almost all the Sunni's and the Shiities despise americans. So Al Qaida had no shortage of recruits.

Shanti:

This doesn't surprise anyone I'm sure. If AQ aren't in Iraq I'll eat my shoes and I have about 30 pairs of running shoes. :)

Let's hope they can keep those bozos under control.

What a mess Bush has gotten us into....

My nephew goes back next week for a second tour. Poor kid....

Given the predictable direction of this thread as summarized below. I'm not gonna bother adding much to this discussion.
------
Left's response: Al Queda wouldn't have been there if it weren't for us. If we piss off Muslims, they're bound to come and take advantage of that.

Right's response: Why can't you acknowlege that this is good news, you unpatriotic slime? God bless america. I love Bush. Bush is da man!

Left's response: Bush sucks!

Right's response: You suck!

In that case, my apologies. I focused on your use of the word "proof" and inferred you were suggesting this was good evidence, at least. My mistake.

And that includes most of us who oppose the war itself.

Robert - please wish your nephew well from all of us. May he return home safely and soon.
