Some Australian technology allows high quality videos to be streamed over the internet via basic modems! Oh ya, FULL SCREEN.

ps - sorry if this is a repost, I couldn't find anything.

Heh, you guys are just used to the crappy technology we have now. :)
The world evolves, and so does technology.

I haven't read the article but with my arrogant attitude I don't need to. 28.8 bps is about 3k/sec. Lets say you're going at 20 frames/sec (normally video is faster than this, but lets give benefit of the doubt). Wow, now you have a wicked 150 BYTES a frame for info including audio and video. This is impossible. Compress all you like; it just can't happen.

Either that was not DVD in that meeting with the 20 people or they were being lied to.

DVD is variable bitrate that goes between 3 or 4 Mbps up to 10Mbps.

If they can compress 10Mbps to 28Kbps, that's a 357:1 compression ratio. Good luck!

Ok, I guess it isn't DVD quality then, I was just going on what I heard from them.
I would guess it's 640x480 res, maybe even lower, as they were probably watching on a tv rather than a monitor(and they said it looked really good).
If the new audio compressions are 25-35:1 or so, this one would have to be around 50:1 to pull off what they're saying. It's doable. :)

maybe they are using something similar to shockwave media? lot of times im surprised at the size of those, they often have lot of music and animation but are really small files. anyways is there a link or something so we can test it with our own eyes? hopefully its true, then we will get amazing quality over cable or dsl.;)

Ya, I use flash, and often a 50MB file with sound can be 300kb once I convert it for the web. Nothing's IMPOSSIBLE. :)
Although this was a closed demonstration, I wouldn't be surprised if it's fake, but at least it'll get the American company thinking about it. The Amercian company in the artical had something similar, but it requires a download of a codec or player or something.

The reason flash can do that is because often times is using limited colors and mathmatical equations in the file are telling the program on your end what they want done; "Move this color from point 1 to point 2 over 5 seconds at this speed, and revolve it 180 degrees". This doesn't work with regular movie because far too many things are going on at once.
