I will be putting together an Opteron 144 gaming system pretty soon. One of the problems I will be running into is that, although the Opteron supports dual channel memory, it requires registered memory. I will be overclocking the system so I definitely want high quality memory such as Corsair XMS. But I'm having a hard time locating registered versions. I heard not to long ago that Kingston would be releasing the HyperX series in registered versions, but I cannot find that either. Suggestions?

Because it overclocks easily to Athlon 64 3200 speeds, supports dual channel memory, and only costs $270. It's basically an underclocked Athlon 64 FX, but I don't have to pay $750 for it. :D Besides it requiring registered memory and a more expensive Nforce3 Pro chipset, there's no reason not to get it. I definitely want a 64-bit processor but I don't want to spend $400 on the Athlon 64 3200 that doesn't even support dual channel memory.

Corsair XMS ECC Registered Memory

Woah, I'll be damned, that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks alot.
Do most of you guys run 1GB of memory for gaming systems nowadays? Or would 512MB be sufficient? Would I see a difference in games such as Doom3, Half-Life 2, Final Fantasy Online, etc by going from 512MB to 1GB? I wanna try to save money here and there.
