I sent this meesage to High Point Tech, and they have not bothered to reply. Maybe one of you folks can shed some light/insight into this.
Please take a stab or two....thanks...

Hello. I have a EPoX D3VA motherboard with your HPT370 IDE RAID controller on it. I have a couple of questions and points that I would like a response on.
First, the harddisk drives I am using are Maxtor 61.4 Gigabyte DiamondMax 60 harddisks. I set them up in the RAID 1 configuration. In the BIOS, I setup ARRAY#0, and then the BIOS asked me to synchronize the drives. I did so, and it took 12 HOURS TO DO THIS. Why? One would think that it should take about 30 minutes or less, but 12 HOURS is unbelievable!
Second, when I was installing Windows 2000 Professional, I pressed F6 during the setup routine to install the HighPoint 370 driver for Windows 2000 and then made it as far as the screen to partition the array. I was able to partition the drives, but then when I was continuing with setup it would NOT let me format the drives, and instead insisted that the drives were not partitioned with a Windows 2000 compatible partition. This caused an endless loop where I could create/delete the partition, but could not format it. The HighPoint RAID controller was reported as "unknown device" during the setup routine.
The way I was able to work around this was to attach one of the drives to the onboard VIA IDE controller, and then partition/format/install Windows 2000. I then loaded the HighPoint 370 driver into Windows 2000 after setup, and then reattached the drives to the HighPoint controller and created the array and then had to synchronize AGAIN, which took another 12 HOURS.
What this basically means is that I can not do striping (RAID 0) if I wanted to. Since I was forced to setup the OS off the HighPoint controller, which meant that setting up the array for striping was out of the question.
So, why does it take SO LONG to synchronize the drives when setup in a RAID 1 configuration, and why won't Windows 2000 allow me to format the drives when attempting to setup the OS when using the HighPoint controller?
Please take a stab or two....thanks...
