high pitched ringing from CPU?

My Pentium 4 3.0 Prescott 800mhz FSB has been making a high pitched "electrical" noise ever since I put it into a new ABIT aa8xe mobo. I know its the cpu because I have unplugged each fan, HD, ram dimm, video card, sound card, optical drive and the noise is still there.

I already removed and replaced the cpu to see if the pins were messed up, but everthing looked fine. My computer runs perfect and the cpu actually seems to be much faster in the new motherboard (better memory).

idle temp: 42c
load temp: 57c (really good for a prescott)

it has never been overclocked, and I know its not the mobo, cause I stuck a celeron in its place, and it made no noises at all. :Q

The noise is most prevelant during games and other CPU intensive activities.

any input is appreciated

Here's what I'd try. Clean the heatsink fan, if that helps then you're set, if not then replace the heatsink with something more high-quality. The CPU itself shouldnt make any noise.

Its got a brand new xp-120 with a brand new nexus 120mm fan. It also made the noise with my zalman 7000b. so I know its NOT the heatsink or the fan.

Sometimes when I can hear similar noises coming from my computer under different load conditions. A high frequency hiss or whine that becomes evident for a while- like a switch was flipped and started the noise, then the sound changes or goes away all together- all based on different stuff going on on the screen. This is only during heavy usage, and changes with loads.

I thought it was harddrives, or fans- but I don't think so. I'm beginning to think my computer could be possessed, and is trying to talk to me with secret messages. Or maybe not.
