I read that to resolve the freezing issue to set the bios agp voltage from 1.5 to 1.6. Well, i did 1.55 to be in the middle, and it worked.

450/1200 is the cards settings with coolbits.

I need to find a good program to monitor what the temps are when i am in a game or benchmark. Right after the benchmark ends i am at 50c and then it idles down to 46c.

Gonna try 3dmark03 now.

How safe is it to run 450/1200 24/7. I dont think the agp voltage being 1.55 in the bios will do anything, as that juice does not actually go to the card so i've read.

Anyhow, this is where i am at, and where i am going to stay. I left the temp monitor up on the screen during that run, and when the score popped up, the temp was 60c. How hot do you think it is getting? It couldnt be much hotter than that because were talking about a split second between the end of the run, and the time i can see the temp.

that is the ultimate GPU temp test, just make that window as big as possible, but leave space so you can see your temps. i just tried the 1.5v-1.6v thing and it did nothing for me, im still stuck at 405/1100. ill remember those damn numbers for the rest of my life 🙁 lol
as long as your RTHDRIBL temps are <70 you should(dontquotemeonthatimnotresponsable) be fine as far as safety goes. run "atitool" and test for artifacts (pay no attention to the name, it works with nvidia too...you just cant OC with it). let the artifact tester run overnight for "optimum" stability testing 😉

from what ive been hearing 450mhz core 24/7 is not a good idea.
but im sure there are plenty off ppl that will tell you they are fine there.

wish i had that problem to worry about 😉

RAM wise i think its fine, because artifacts dont exist. Core wise, i am going to 435 for my own peice of mind. Ive benchmarked and saved the screenshots, so no sense in overkill just for the sake of overkill.

My permanent settings, largely thanks to Thugs.

6800u with GTU Bios 435/1200

Idle 46c
Load 60c

Nvidia 71.80 drivers with coolbits.reg

Im using expertool and have the fan set to 90/100 for settings.

i think i will leave the agp voltage at 1.55 in the bios unless someone thinks that is not a good idea. Just seems my entire system, not just the vid card, is super stable at that setting, and i would just assume leave well enough alone.
 
zak, i finally dl'd the ati tool, thats pretty cool. i like that you can monitor the temps as it runs with the nvidia. i haven't done the other one yet, couldn't get it to d/l'd last nite.

running the ati and monitoring though showed my temps are higher than i thought, hit 60c which is abouyt 5c more than i thought it was hitting. thats just with a small (10%) oc.

ThugsRock, just to be clear, when you say TIM, you're talking about the thermal material used to space the GPU and the heatsink? and AS5/ASC is Arctic Silver 5 / ?????

those seem to be nVidia reference bios files.
nothing special.

if i were you, id be looking at the Gainward bios files, the GT in particular 😉
 
I thought this was the most appropriate thread to post this.

My mobo (in sig) has three options for AGP voltage. 1.5v, 1.6v, and 1.7v ....I thought 1.3v was what the GT uses. My temps are 57 idle, 75 load with the NV silencer at stock speeds. I can overclock to ultra speeds and increases by about 2.5C...

Is this normal or should I change mobo ASAP to prevent damage to my card...Thinking of getting a A64 anyways.

the AGP voltage in your bios is totally different. its supposed to be 1.5v.
what Thug's bios does is basicly mods the Vcore on the card. So your AGP slot feeds the card 1.5v, and the card has resistors and whatnot that convert that to whatever your vcore is, 1.3v stock GT or 1.4v Ultra. your mobo is perfectly normal.

Not really, he tried GT bios and its only tighter ram timmings that makes it faster unless you change timmings, the bioses i think are from one of few ultra extremes which are only 450/1200 anyhow, pity nvidia just missed out on new samsun 1.2ns ram at launch of n40 cause it would be 800/1600mhz ddr 😉

I seriously doubt any GT would be my Chaintech, but with current bios thats max i get with 0 artifacts in 3d mark 2005, i can go bit hiher but get nice white flakes. 🙁
 
Would there be any reason for the GTU bios lowering OC potential?

Have a Prolink 6800U, flashed to GTU, and coolbits will not let me past 450/1160 (test failed), where I was able to do 462/1220 before.

 
on the memory side there is a reason, but not for the GPU.
some cards are just different from others, i cant account for them all.

Question:

if you have an Ultra BIOS-patched to the lower RAM timings of the GT, then overclocking to -say- 1160 only might still overall be faster than overclocking to -say- 1220, right?

The overclockable frequency is mostly bandwidth, whereas the lower RAM timing affect latency which is not included in the frequency rating, correct?
 
Thanks, Thugs. I am slowly getting the hang on how video cards work.

Do you happen to know what the minimum access size of memory access by a GPU is? Obviously they have a word size at least as big as the memory widith (e.g. 256 bit), but do they do some kind of automatic readahead?

eBauer, it would be interesting to know what framerates you get with your two settings. The lower clockspeed might be faster.
