My Honda Civic has 243,000 miles on it and it still runs great. It does burn about a quart or 2 between changes. (That is to be expected) I usually use Mobile 10W-30 or so, regular motor oil.

Is there any REAL advantage of using this mile mileage motor oil? Does it really make a difference?

Thanks!

Well, take it for what it's worth, but my car usually burns about a quart of oil between oil changes. I switched to Max Life at my last oil change and it is right at the full mark, right about time for the next oil change. This is a '96 Taurus with 150K on it.

Wow. Well, it is time for another change this weekend. I will give Max Life a try.

243k and you're using 10w30? Ack.. tie to go to a bit thicker oil, *I* would use 20w50 (depending on where you live) at leat use 10w40...

I'm waiting to see some real testing of the "Max Life" -like products before I put out the extra $$$ for that type of product.

Ooooh, that reminds me, gotta pick up a case of 10w30 maxlife tomorrow. My mom's 85 civic is in need of an oil change.

I live in Ohio. Winters can suck.

So I should get Max Life 10w40?

stuff like maxlife is a thicker oil.. therefore burns lesser.. go for a 10-40 oil and maxlife.. it should be fine.

That is not possible. Every internal combustion engine uses some oil.

That Civic has served you well. Why mess with success? I'd still use your Mobile 10W30.

Btw, 10W30 or 10WXX have no real difference in 'thickness.' The designation has more to do with the flow properties at different temperatures than anything else.

Well, I'll put it this way. Every time that I check my oil cold, it's always at F. Maybe it moves down a millimeter or two, but I always have 4 quarts of old oil in the drainpan when I put in the new 4 quarts.

I use cheap stuff and my car has 175,000 miles. Runs great (knock on wood). I hear mixed messages from people reguarding synthetic and such, but I guess I'd rather just change my oil twice as often than buy oil that's twice as expensive. I use 10w40 during summer and 10w30 during winter. Works well for me.
