My job requires that I wear safety toe shoes and I do alot of walking, sometimes over 5 miles per day. And the fact is that I need something that will be better on my feet. Alot of safety toe shoes tend to be geared toward a tough exterior and for stationary type work which is not what I need.

Honestly something that fits and feels more like an athletic shoe or cross trainer would be nice.

Any recommendations?

I recommend Blundstone safety boots. A little pricey, but I won't own anything but now.

Edit: I missed the part about you wanting a "shoe". I have never found a comfortable safety shoe. I stand by my Blundstone reply.

I wear my Wolverine boots about 3-4 times a week working in the power plant. I'm still on the same pair I got when I entered this business about 6 years ago now. I have custom orthotics in them because of my high arches, and they've held up very well. I believe they were about $150 or so when I got them. I would suggest getting some better soles for whatever you get - they really do make a ton of a difference on your feet.

i wore wolverine boots in the field as well, on oil rigs offshore, in the Simpson desert, and in Wyoming and north Dakota. I dont think i would ever buy anything else.

check out the Cat and Bates as they are the same company.

I would suggest the Irish Setter brand. They are owned by Red wing, and I find their shoes are very comfortable for walking all day.

I've had the timberland pro helix boots for about a year now and am very happy with them. throughout the day, I'm walking on unworked dirt pads, and my feet feel great after 10+ hours.

My feet quit hurting after being on them for eight hours after I started using Dr. Scholls custom fit orthotics. A coworker got custom orthotics from a podiatrist that the VA sent him to and he loves them.
