high low beeps no post

I am getting a series of beeps which go from high to low like do -dah do- dah and no post when I startup my p4 gigabyte ga-81dml does it sound like the cpu is done ?

This happened to me before on an Asus board when there was no fan plugged into the CPU fan header on the motherboard; I guess it was some kind of safety feature. I had to plug a fan into the header to get it to POST and then go into the BIOS to turn that option off. It's worth a shot in your case, unless or course you already have a fan plugged in the header.

CPU? This is what it is on an Asus P4B266, anyway. Took f***ing forver to find that out.

The hi-lo isn't a standard beep code so it's probably something mobo specific. Dead fan or overtemp warning probably.
