High Latency Internet/Gaming with desktop after a year of not using.

Hey guys. I'm seeing some odd activity with my desktop. I'm getting really high ping/latency. It's a dell xps8300 with a built in wifi card. I've confirmed this is an issue with the system as I've tried to game with different computers on the same network without this issue.

I haven't really used this unit in about 14 months and I didn't encounter this issue last time I used it, so any idea what could be causing the problem? I've already tried updating the drivers from Dell. Thanks!

I agree.
Noisy wifi messing up your response times.

Also just maybe there is a new router that was installed and less compatible with your wifi NIC.

This is a point. However, my other system works just fine w/ the same wifi network? Wouldn't this rule out the wifi issue?

Newer wifi using newer standards.
For a long term fix I would upgrade the other equipment as well.

My Asus dual antenna WIFI G card is unable to connect to my new FIOS Wifi router but works fine with the newest APPLE AIRPORT EXTREME AC router.

So just to show you there are incompatibilities all around.

it's the same dlink router that i've always had...

I had a D-link extreme N router that acted up and did the same thing as you mention.

Try resetting router to factory defaults.

NIC cards are cheap now.
Just buy a new nic card. Average price for a 10/100 nic is around $45
Even a cheap mini PCIe nic is near $50 Co worker bought one on sale for $25.
