High Hard Drive Activity after boot

Inspiron 600m, windows xp, 512mb RAM. Has ran well for the past 2 years.

Very recently, after bootup i experience about 10 minutes of high hard drive activity, like a bunch of read/writing is going on.

Im using a travelstar 60 gig 7200 drive. I ran hitachi's tests against the drive, found no problems. Ran a defrag, antivirus, spyware, etc - clean. Havent installed any new recent software.

Thought about using bootvis, but the actual boot is still fairly quick - its only after the boot that i experience the hd activity. Once it calms down, im able to work.

Any thoughts as to where to look?
Best regards,
Jason

I would suggest you look in several areas, all of them connected.

These new "desktop" programs, like MSN Desktop for example, use an indexer to assist in the searching process and make it smoother and faster. This is what you could be seeing.

Another is indexers that are part of the operating system or several of Microsoft's Office suites that could have been turned on accidentally.

A last idea would be some picture software, which comes with your new printer, for example, may be trying to index all your graphics.

Let us know what you find.
