High-Fat Diet May Make You Stupid and Lazy

By now, we've all heard that high-fat diets are bad for our health in the long run. But what about the short-term?

A new study on rats finds that 10 days of eating a high-fat diet caused short-term memory loss and made exercise difficult. While the finding may not seem a big surprise, the researcher say it might suggest that high-fat diets make humans lazy and stupid.

This explains a great many things......

Same for high carb diets. High protein diets, not so much, but if you consume the right (wrong) amount of calories, any of the 3 will make you lethargic.

Every time I go to the local walmart, I can't find a single person be it man, woman, or child that doesn't look obese, unhealthy, or lazy. I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb every time I walk in there...

Interesting . . .indeed. This does explain the laziness and stupidity but then what is it that is making us so fucking fat?

Laziness and stupidity.

High fat/low carb diet makes you tired because your brain functions on glucose mainly and it takes several days of ketosis for it to switch over. During that period, your body restricts glucose use for the brain, making you feel tired and probably not very sharp.

High carb/low fat diet makes you feel lethargic, because it takes your body a lot of energy to utilize complex carbs. The analogy is that of carbs being like coals as a fuel source, coal burns for a long time but it takes a significant 'starter'. If you don't have that starter you just have a big lump of coal weighing you down and making it difficult to move. And simple carbs tend to just spike you back into a coma.

All off the top of my head, possibly wildly inaccurate.

I think in general concept that is pretty accurate. Glucose balance is a major player in most diets, as to whether they succeed or not, and how the diet effects the individuals motivation.

However, wouldn't a lot of high fat diets also end up being a high simple sugar diet? Seems a lot of fatty foods have a lot of carbs, and usually not complex carbs.

I ask because I eat quite a balance, but it ends up being a diet high in everything on some occasions. 😛 But I keep active, and when not active, I'm constantly twitching some body party... cannot sit still. And I have maintained a high metabolism all my life.
The thing that gets me... maybe my laziness and ADD have just been natural issues and not food related, but it could be food. One of these days I'll get back into the fish oil pills to see if that can truly do anything for my ADD like has been suggested.

first part is called glucose sparing effect. takes about 2 days to kick in after all glycogen reserves in the liver and skeletal muscles are used up. body will start lypolysis to obtain keytone bodies that can be use for the TCA cycle. all available glucose will be used up by the brain and nervous systems. if uncontrolled, can lead to ketoacidosis because the during lypolysis you also get ketoacids.

the funny thing about high fat diets is fat cells produce leptin, a hormone that suppresses neuropeptide y, which itself is a powerful appetite stimulant. as your body absorbs more fat, adipocytes are increasingly secreting leptin. when people continue to beyond what the body needs, it's normally a behavioral/psychological condition.
