High-End Headphones

Spooner

I want a pair of those things that cuts out all noise and fits snugly around your ears with leather

Looking to spend around $100. Any suggestions?

i love my d66 eggos, got 'em for about $100. good isolation and range. more bass if you want with the mod on head-fi.org. lots of eggo nuts on head fi.

but they're cloth around the ears not leather.

What kind of a source would you be using? What kind of music will you be listening to? is portability important to you?

I have Grado sr80's myself and love them, but they don't fit your bill as they are open and not leather.

Grado SR -80s will get the job done. can get them for about 85.

and unless your running them off a dickman you DONT need an amp

the sennheiser hd580s are an open design. i.e. dont cut out much noise.

i would get the sony mdr-7506/v6 studio monitors.

I think he wants something comfortable 😉
When I had my 580's, they ran fine off my sound card.
I now use V6's... I have the velour pad mod on them.
In every respect, the 580 is better... I got the V6 because I dont use headphones as much as I used to and I sold my stereo (which included a tube headphone amp).

The V6 is a great value, but if you have the money to spend, by all means get the 580.
Since he wants comfort, he'd probably want the velour pad mod to replace the pleather on the V6, which bring the price to ~90... $30 more and youre in 580 range.

if you are on pain killers
or
if you only wear them for 5 min
🙂

If you want closed phones don't get the HD580 they are open but, they are awesome phones nonetheless.

I suggest getting the beyerdynamic 250-80ohm
or the Sony V6's if you want/need closed

Or if you want to spend some $$$ get some etymotic's I recently purchased the ER4S and they sound pretty darn good
