Dead Island is FPS with RPG elements, plus co-op play. Not sure if there is a demo though.

Dishonored is also first person with leveling up, but it's an action/stealth assassin type game, not so much a shooter.

Borderlands 2 is an action FPS with RPG elements, and is excellent.

For single-player, in some ways Borderlands 1 is even better and is dirt cheap for the GOTY edition.

Saint's Row The Third is a goofy fun sandbox shooter that has some slight RPG elements (good if silly story, skill upgrades, character customization and costuming)

Skyrim and The Witcher 2 are fantasy RPGs with state of the art graphics.

deus ex HR has been the best action/rpg i have played recently, if you havent played yet. Currently playing dishonored, and in a lot of ways its very similar, but so far I think deus ex is the better game. The boss fights suck though, and take away from the stealthiness off it. I had to spend praxis points on crap i was only going to use on boss fights just because they are so different from everything else you do in the game. I even had to change the difficulty on some of the last ones, because i got so damn frustrated (was playing on the hardest level, bosses were wayyy too hard).
