High end cards on 939 configuration

Anybody running the latest high end cards like the 8800 GTX, Ultra or the 3870X2 on a Socket 939 configuration? Are you happy wth the results. I am thinking of upgrading my card from the GTS 320 MB to one of the two, 9800X2 or the 3870X2. But I am not able to decide if i will get the expected performance increase with my current configuration.

I stuck an 8800GT in my 939 4800+x2 system. I'm very happy with the results. The key with processors these days seems to be:

2.6Ghz or faster
Dual Core

If it's anything near or above that spec, games don't seem to give a damn what it is. They just care about the graphics chip.

My system runs Crysis maxed as well as anything else...but then I upgraded from a 6600GT, so my noticable performance increase may differ from other's experiences.

I had my 8800gt on a 939 3800+ X2 for awhile. It was a nice upgrade from my old 7800gt (and a free step up from a GTS320 😉)

I think your 939 platform isn't the limiting factor, but rather the (likely) slower CPU you have sitting in that 939 socket. You may be better served with an AM2 / 775 upgrade. The GTS320 is no slouch, but it can be a little pokey depending on what resolution and games you play.

More info about the rest of your system 🙂

You've got an Opteron at 2.7 GHz... That's pretty quick. I think you can squeeze a little more life out of the system 😉

any upgrade right now means changing pretty much the entire system, thats why my question. it could double up my upgrade budget if I need to do all that.
