Can i view an HD movie lets say from apple and have it be true hd? right now i have a vga connection to my lcd monitor running a resoulution of 1024 by 1280 can i view the HD at its full potential or is the quality slimed from teh vga conenction?
 
If you're running 1280x1024 and are playing a video that is 1280x720 (720p) in fullscreen (with bars on top and bottom), you should be at native res and it should be good.

EDIT: VGA is pretty much the same thing as a component video connection, which is fine for 720p and 1080i video signals.
Depending on your display, a digital connection may be better, but VGA should be almost as good (and in some cases better).
 
I highly doubt your res is 1024x1280. I think you have it mixed up.

But yes, it will work. Go with 720p clips. They will display on your LCD 1:1 pixel mapping with black bars on the top and bottom. Forget 1080p clips though. While 1080p works just fine over VGA, your screen doesn't have enough resolution to show it fullscreen without resizing it anyway.
