So you mean you can get the carbohydrates you need, and your body uses the fats it has stored? Gasp!

I have a diet plan called intelligence and moderation. I'm intelligent about what I eat and I do it in moderation.
I'm still very skeptical about the long term success or healthyness of any diet plan that preaches the need of cutting out entire types of food or the increased consumption of certain types of food.
Keep your calories consumed under control, spread around what makes up those calories, toss in 90 minutes a week of cardio vascular exercise and you'll keep yourself in good shape assuming you don't have some sort of freak metabolism or thyroid probem.
Uh....no. It's not. SB allows you somewhat more carbs than Atkins, but you're sure as hell not eating a big bowl of spaghetti at any point in the day.Originally posted by: Babbles
That article really is not that truthful, in a way. It said something about high fat in the South Beach Diet, and what I have read about that particular diet the gist of it was to cut out a lot of the 'bad' fats as well as unhealthy carbs. I believe even Atkins revised itself so most of the fats are good fats, not bacon grease.
Then they go on to say that the participants ate high fiber cereal, whole wheat spaghettie, fruits, veggies, and low fat milk. Damn, that would be the same stuff that is included in the Atkins, South Beach, and a lot of other ketogenic diets.

ElFenix is right... Not in the earliest stages of course, but there is room for whole wheat pasta in both the Atkins and South Beach plans.Originally posted by: ElFenix

depends on how many carbs you're up too and how much of that is fiber.
eat less sugar, more fiber, and you'll most likely lose weight. seems to be what all these diet trends are pointing to.
Right. The reason this diet works is because the participants took in a reasonable amount of calories (2,400 per day) with high fiber content and a mostly low glycemic-index with regard to carbs. Add some exercise and you'll lose weight. The same diet with simple carbs and low fiber wouldn't work nearly as well.Originally posted by: Wingznut

There are about a hundred different plans you can do to lose weight. I don't recall anyone saying that there was ONLY ONE SINGLE way to do it.
If you want to lose weight, find the one that suits your lifestyle and stick with it.![]()

South Beach is still a relatively low-carb diet, so it's not anything like this study other than the source of the carbs. SB is much closer in approach to Atkins than the diet in the article.Originally posted by: Babbles

How am I wrong??
All I said about the South Beach Diet was that part of the aim is to cut bad fats and unhealthy carbs; oh like, I dunno, eating a big bowl of spaghetti. I know you can eat carbs, that is actually part of my ill-typed out point. However those come in the form of whole wheat foods, veggies, fruits, etcetera. Just like this study as reported by Yahoo.
