Just bought HiFiMan 601. I like it very much.
Just wonder, if anyone has it, what ear/headphones they use with this player?
So far, I've Philips http://www.usa.philips.com/c/headphones/she9621_28/prd/en/?t=specifications but maybe will buy higher end...
Now, I've bought this player not for mp3's, but listen to .flac
Years ago, when mp3 started, I've converted all my CDs to mp3.
Now, I have to do same - convert all my CDs to .FLAC
I try to get used to EAC - to convert CDs to .FLAC

Just wonder, what other owners of HiFiMan 601 think about.

$200+ "audiophile" music player
$20 headphones

lol :)

Have you read part of my question: "what ear/headphones they use with this player?" ???

Another thing, sound of music - isn't about dollars and cents...

I don't think, that any earphones sold with iPod even are close to sound quality to those of Philips I have....

I used the chart below and some other reviews as a good base point for my search. For Christmas the wife got me the HiFiMan RE-262. They were rated very high and hanging around in-ear headphones over twice its price. She paid under $120 for them.

I've only had them one day and haven't been able to give them the recommended 50hr break in, but out of the box they are very excellent.

I'm very happy with them so far! The bass solid and the mid range is great. The highs aren't overpowering so I haven't had any fatigue like you sometimes get with In-ear headphones. Great overall sound stage and I'm glad I got them.

They came with 4-5 different rubber ear covers so you can find the best fit for you.

you'd need an amp for the 600ohm dt880's.

and they're so so so open, definitely not suitable for portable use.

I've already told, that I do plan to spend $100-200, not ~$300...
And I'm not thinking to buy an amp.

Thanks anyway... :)

I'm thinking about getting RE-262...

Thanks for suggestion...Got RE-262 and I like it very much...haven't listened yet that much - over break-in time, but it sounds better and better...sound is crisp, detailed...need to find yet right flanges - when sound is best with...

Only thing I don't like about these earphones - cable...it could be better...

And HiFiMan 601 - prolly best purchase I've made lately...but I don't want to listen mp3's with that player, just flac's - sound is incredible...

There is nothing "audiophile" about TDA1543 chip used in HiFiMan 601, the myth of supposedly better sound by the so-called non-oversampling chips like TDA1543 has been debunked by pro-audio engineers like Dan Lavry. White paper here (not popular by audiofools on Head-Fi). For the price, the iPod touch is a better choice.

Sound really is great...I do enjoy not only .flac's but mp3's sound great...Vocals are up-front - very clear...great sound stage - something, I didn't knew or care about before...
bass and tremble more level out - not too much bass or tremble....Wonderful sound...

I'm so thankful to you...RE-262 does sound incredible, just now not with HifiMan 601 but Astell & Kern AK100...

Night after night I'm listening to music like I'm having $10,000-20,000 stereo at home

Dan Lavry(not to be confused with Dan Lavery from the band tonic) is as far from deaf as you can get. He is pretty respected in the music and audio industry and his company Lavry Engineering www.lavryengineering.com makes some really nice high end DACs for both professional and hi-fi home use. They aren't crap and he knows what he's talking about. When he talks about the shortcomings of a particular format or device, he isn't just spewing hot air.

So which is it?

And that AK100 is getting killed by reviewers.
