Is it possible for me to hide certain drives for logins other than the admin login (specifically a limited account)? I have some data which I cannot afford to lose and the only sure way is to lock everyone else out.

Use a removeable drive/media such as DVD+RW then, those solutions are much safer than leaving a computer in the hands of "normal" users.

But if you "cannot afford to lose" it and have to keep it private you might want to clone the partition to an external hdd that you keep with you when not in use.

Tweak UI doesn't work in a limited account. Also, a lot of it is programs (matlab, Illustrator and such) that I don't want to bother recover or setup the way I like them. I already have backups on DVDRs but there is still the hassle. It is much simpler to have a login just for people that want to borrow (use) my computer for a while.

CORRECTION - TweakUI doesnt let me de-select drives shown in a limited account and having a spare admin account would defeat the purpose.

how about removing the drive letter for the drive when you're not using it?

Can the drive and it's data be encrypted (if it's NTFS) so that only specific people have access?

That could work too.

Yea, hiding it via the registry isn't the best method I believe.. I have my dedicated swap partition hidden via TweakUI, and though its hidden in explorer, it still shows when using a drive space widget in Konfabulator, and I think Nero might show it too.. A better way is to mess with security settings, or NTFS permissions.

If your not on a domain you may need to disable simple filesharing before you can get access to the advanced file permissions.
