Hiding a WiFi Signal

My college has a policy where you can't install a wireless router in the dorms because of network security and so everyone will pay for internet. I was wondering, is there anyway to mask a wifi signal so if they sweep through the halls they wouldn't find it? I know not to broadcast a SSID, but i think they can still pick up on a signal. I was thinking some sort of aluminum antenna enclosure that would direct the signal into the dorm and out the window, away from the hall. Any ideas?

you could always cover your room in aluminium foil

or try taking the antenna off, that'll prob cut down the range to a few feet.

Short of them doing routine checks... they'll never know.

Just make an SSID that is non-descriptive and use encryption.
