How about this crazy idea: No more cutscenes?

I always skip over them and it adds nothing to the exprience. Half Life 1&2, Doom3/Quake4, Splinter Cell all did not contain 5 hours of worthless cutscenes and worked out better for it. Render it in game or don't bother. Cut scenes just destroy the immersion and experience.

I disagree - I love the cutscenes. The MGS3 cutscenes were phenomenal and really gave the game a more epic feel. They can really help with the experience.

If you just skip all of them, then obviously they won't add anything to your experience - you skipped them! That's like saying the combat didn't add anything to the experience because you ran away from every fight

What he doesn't mention is that the same data is repeated five times just to make up for the slow BD drive read times... 😛

Don't forget the mandatory 5GB install. 😉

Hell, I'll take a 50GB install if it means less load time. I don't see why people give a damn about a ton of empty hard drive space (I upgraded the drive just so I could fill it up with as much crap as possible)

Metal Gear is about the story plain and simple.

MGS3 was kinda meh.. Good in retrospect, but the cutscenes were too damn long and pointless at times (stop meowing Ocelot! Stop twirling your gun Ocelot! Stop looking at people for 5 min and making random gestures Ocelot!) MGS1 and MGS2 were find cutscene-wise, except MGS2 had a shitty ending.

This is so asinine. *Anyone* can fill a 50GB disc with uncompressed files.

Indeed. And virtually noone can actually tell the difference, unless they have $10-15k worth of gear.

😕

Then I guess you don't know how to appreciate the mastery of a game series that is Metal Gear Solid, the cutscenes are essential to the experience.

I watched some of the cut scenes in the first MGS title, after that I couldn't start hitting the button to pass them quick enough.

Of course, the only thing more frustrating than the cutscenes in these games has been the controls. hopefully that'll be fixed in MGS4.

There is no way that they cannot put MGS4 on 50GB. The only logical reason is they can't streamline the code or compress it down to size.

I guess I like the sometimes silly MGS humor. If the player uses the free-look during certain cut-scenes, EVA and The Boss can be seen mimicking Ocelot's gesture to his back. Subsistence had some funny (silly) "bonus" videos.

One of many spoof vids from MGS3.

My favorite part is at 7:15.
