File server running 2003.
Shared folders exist on the server in x:\share.
x:\share contains folders for Dept1,Dept2,etc.
x:\share\Dept1 is shared with full control share permissions and read NTFS permissions.
x:\share\Dept1 contains folders Department1,User1,User2, etc. Permission inheritance is blocked on all directories.
x:\share\Dept1\Department1 has NTFS rights set through modify for Department1 DL group.
x:\share\Dept1\UserX has NTFS rights set to modify for that particular user.
When user gets a network drive (Dept1 share) they see the folders for Department1 and all User subdirectories. Permissions do not allow users to view the contents of other users directory. Is there away to hide the folders they do not have permission to?
Users are currently on a Novell server and its permissions allow us to share this entire department folder but when the user accesses that share they only see the department and personal folder. We are going to be migrating them to a MS server and would like to keep the same look and feel for the users as they are "very important" so any change\difference will hurt their very important brains.
*All other departments receiving network drives on MS servers get two drive letters one for the department folder and one for their personal folder.
