Hidden processes in Vista 64?

I have an HP AMD dual core laptop running vista ultimate 64 with 2GB of ram.

On vista startup, I run Task Manager, where I see the CPU Usage >50%

On the "Processes" tab, there are no processes using a combined total of anything near 50%.

The hard drive LED is lit, and windows is sluggish for about 5 minutes. THen it calms down and all is well.

How can I see these seemingly hidden processes?

How can I reduce the sluggishness of the first few minutes of startup?

You're seeing superfetch do it's thing after a fresh reboot, but it shouldn't be pegging a core by any means. Usually when you see 'phantom' cpu usage it indicates a driver/hardware problem. Check out the systinternals toolset from Microsoft, you can usually get a LOT more information out of them then you can from Task Manager.
