Hidden intro in Mass Effect 2

Probably everyone knows about this, but I just got Mass Effect 2 a few days ago (it's fucking awesome, by the way) and just noticed today. If you launch it and leave it at the "Press any key to continue" screen for a minute or two you get a cool CGI intro. It's actually pretty damn good too.

They used to do things like that a lot back in the days (game-play videos, not CGIs, obviously) if you left the game at the main menu for a while, curiously self-recorded game-play videos of devs is a long gone trend, not sure exactly what triggered its disappearance over time. I recall that rarely some games had multiple videos like that, and that some of them sometimes revealed some easter eggs or secrets that the player would have otherwise missed, especially for combat games like the Mortal Kombat series for instance.

As for Mass Effect 2, the CGI video was revealed in regular media prior to the game's release, but it's nice to know that they left it in the game itself.

Hmm after the first teaser trailer for ME2 (where Shepard was dead) I decided not to watch any pre-release videos for the game so everything would be a surprise to me. Mission accomplished 🙂

A lot of games used to do this, as Zenoth mentioned.

Still, a nice heads up to those who didn't notice it in ME2 (I did...one of the first things I do when I get a new game is wait for an automatic cutscene)
