For some reason, the Network Connections window in WinXP refuses to show my ethernet adapter (and its corresponding DSL modem internet connection). I can connect to the internet OK, but oddly I can't get any information about the connection.
The Network Connections window shows a (disconnected) dial-up 56K modem connection under the dial-up heading, and two (unused) 1394 firewire connections under "LAN or High-Speed Internet", but nothing about the ethernet adapter or the internet connection I'm getting through it.
Since my internet connection is working, why do I care? Well, I can't get my firewall router working now because the setup software can't see the router over the ethernet port (lights are all fine on the router and DSL modem), which I suspect is because it can't find the network connection for it.
A possible cause of this might be that I recently deleted the my motherboard's on-board ethernet driver by accident. I lost my internet connection at that point, switched the dsl modem to USB mode and downloaded a new ethernet driver, reinstalled the enet driver, and it came back up fine using ethernet, but with no connection showing under network connections. (Though I can't say for sure it had showed before all that happened).
Anyway, any ideas why my network connection doesn't show up or how I can get it to show up? Or why the install software can't see my old firewall router despite green lights all-around?
Thanks!
