Good Morning,

I ran into an interesting problem while upgrading several systems from WinME to WinXP . . . hidden drives.

On both of these systems, I have USB media readers installed (ZiO!), and they are properly recognized by the system and have the Remove Media icon in the System Tray etc. However, their drive letter doesn't show up in Windows Explorer.

By looking at the hardware in Device Manager, I was able to determine what its drive letter should be, and can type it into the Address window in Windows Explorer and it is recognized and then I can browse and move files as I normally would.

What must I do to remove what it apparently a Hidden attribute for these devices?

here's a suggestion to you problem...

you probably have hidden files set to hide... to disable this, go to windows explorer > tools > last option (think it's called Options) > click on the second tab, and in the list, select "show hidden files"...

sorry that i couldn't give you an exact description on how to get there..the computer that i'm on has these features disabled so i'm just remembering off the top of my head...

i will post back later giving you direct instructions in case you have problems...

also, if you can get into that drives' properties, make sure that you take off the "hidden" attribute.

Viper,
Thanks for the input.

I checked, and Show All Files is selected.

I don't know how to access the drive attributes in WinXP . . . that is the problem <G>.

That is weird.. I've never had any problems like that with the exception of drives that do not have proper formating aka recently formated drives. Have you looked for fresh drivers for you ZiO! drive? Perhaps the carry over drivers are not compatible with Windows XP?

Thats all i can think of atm

hope you figure it out.. ugh winme

Gary, it's a pretty simple solution. DriveCopy and DriveImage both have a hide/unhide utility. They use that in order to prevent a backup drive from being seen by the main drive and screwing up the location of things.

1. Boot using DC or DI's boot diskettes.

2. When the program opens, go to TOOLS, and right below it is HIDE/UNHIDE PARTITIONS.

That's it - :)
