HID upgrades for an older vehicle

I need to replace my headlights (one of them has a leak & has water in it), & I want something brighter than stock. I have very poor night vision, & the weak ass yellow bulbs that my 1986 Accord DX has on it don't light up enough to see jack sh!t. Unfortunately now that the time has changed I'm going to be driving in the dark a lot more, so an "upgrade" would be a good thing.

I ran across these on PartsAmerica. I've seen them as low as $450 online, but that's a crapload of money to drop on headlights when the car itself only cost me $200 (bought it for $200 with a blown engine/transmission & swapped in an engine/transmission from my totalled 89 Accord).

Anybody have any experience with these, or any other suggestions? I'm not looking for rice, I just want to make my night driving safer.

Maybe you should drain all the fluid out of your headlights and refill them will some new headlight fluids

Have you tried cleaning them? Are they yellow from age/sun exposed?

They're regular old 1980's headlights, nothing particularly wrong with them (save for the one with the water whenever it rains).

So they are sealed beam bulbs. Have you checked any of the honda/ricer forums for a possible late model swap?

Those lamps in the link are expensive. :Q

You might want to check on your state laws. As far as i know, it is now illegal for shops to sell HID kits. Bulbs are okay, but only to cars already equipped with HID's.

HID is expensive, that's pretty much to be expected.

I'm not sure what you mean by a late model swap, to my knowledge no Accords have ever come with HID lights (well, maybe the 2003's), & even if they did they wouldn't fit my car...

What I meant is halogen bulbs are brighter than seal beams and I was wondering if anybody figured out how to swap an 88 or newer halogen bulbs and lens into your older style car.

that doesn't look like a kit per se...

it's not street legal that's for sure...but i think that skips the legality laws...

most ghetto kits just come with bulbs/ballasts...that looks like it comes with something else

How about these?

Headlamp Conversion

These Headlamp Conversions take place of factory sealed beam headlamps. Maintains factory look while being able to install any standard H-4 bulb(headlight bulbs sold separately). They are very simple to install, no need for cutting or rewiring.
