Hibernation and Stand-By gone in XP Pro

Somehow, I managed to disable Stand-By and Hibernation on my Laptop running XP Pro. I want the system to go into stand-by when I shut the lid, however its not an option anywhere. I can't even go to start -> shutdown -> stand-by (or hibernate)!

I have xteq installed, and I might have done it there (can't remember), but when I root around in xteq I can't find a place where that is even an option. Any ideas on how to enable stand-by and hibernation?

Please read the question, he has neither standby or hibernate enabled on the system (for some reason). Also, for the record, you hold 'shift' to get hiberntate, no need to also hold control.

I don't quite understand this. Are you saying the options have disappeared in PowerManagement or just the Shutdown menu?

Look under Power Scheme tab in Power Options in Control Panel. I don't know how to access it through system via My computer right click.

XP installs differently on laptops then desktops; I've advised you through the scheme of a laptop install.

ScrapSilicon already answered the question: PowerManagement(XP ..Power Options..Advanced tab..?)..?
Thank for the info.

If the option disappeared in PowerManagement , probably ACPI and Power Management in the BIOS is disabled. But that's unlikely.

That would explain Hibernate being gone, but not standby....

Snoozy,

Have you ever tried to upgrade/install/uninstall video drivers on your laptop? In many instances incorrectly installed video drivers will disable both Standby and Hibernate options. Just something to check...
