Hibernate Mode

My wife has a Toshiba celeron 500 laptop with win98se installed. The computer has a hibernate feature that saves the computer's state to the disk and shuts it down, so when it is started back up again all the programs that were open before are open again. Kinda cool, actually.

Anyway, this recently stopped working. Whenever she tries to put the computer in hibernate mode, the screen will flash black and then come back again, and it won't go into hibernate mode. Plus, it'll start running really slow until you reboot the computer.

The manual said that there's a possibility that the hibernate feature won't work with FAT32 drives, which of course the hard drive is. However, it worked just fine and dandy until recently.

I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar thing happen to their laptop with this hibernate feature, and if there was a way to fix it other than a "slash and burn" of re-installing win98 😛

Thanks in advance.

Windows wasn't made to go into a "Hibernate Mode" even though that option is there. With any version of Windows 9x you're gonna have to restart the computer at least once a day to free up system resources. Frankly, I don't know many computers that even work in Hibernate Mode that well. I guess if it worked before you could try reinstalling Windows...but it probably will only work for a while.

Sorry for giving the obvious answer, but that's the only way I know of fixing it

good luck 🙂
