Hi Guys,

I have Windows Vista Ultimate installed on my computer (32-Bit)...
If i try to hibernate my computer (i've disabled hybrid sleep)...the computer hibernates, but instead of powering off, it reboots and computer resumes...

I've reading about issues on the net and till now I have done:

1. Enabled the power state to S3 from BIOS, though it was set to S1 when I installed vista, I hope i don't have to reinstall vista due to that

2.Installed the newly released peformance, compatibility and reliablity hotfixes

But they haven't had helped and problem is still there....Also computer is not going in standby(sleep) mode either, if I put it in sleep mode, the monitor becomes blank, but it dosen't go in standby(I know as power LED on cabinet don't blink, as with XP), and I can't resume my computer back either...

So any other things I can do to get hibernate working...

Regards,

Hmm....well I'm not using ReadyBoost as of now..
But i've applied the hotfix, it dosen't seem to help...Also in my Bios (Asus P5B) i can set the sleep state to AUTO (instead of s1 or s3)...but it also dosen't help either

Hibernation is S4, switching S1/S3 shouldn't make any difference whatsoever.

When a hibernated machine instantly reboots, then you got an enabled wake source that isn't working right. Try disabling available wake sources in BIOS and Windows, and pull PCI cards out to narrow it down.

Well i've searched the devices in Device Manager which which can bring computer out of sleep, these were only keyboard and mouse..Waking by Network card has been already disabled by me. I don't think its due to these devices due to which computer is waking up, as you can't turn on the computer from off with either the keyboard or mouse(technically you can, but that has to be enabled in BIOS, and it is not the case here)...Seems more to be case of Vista not being able to turn the computer off(or switching to s4 state) after saving the memory contents to HDD.

Correct, S4 is hibernate, but you need S3 enabled in BIOS to support that...I simply stated that S1 & S3 (or just S3) is a common setting to cover everything and there are often other, related settings in the BIOS. In some cases you do have to set this prior to the OS installation but I'm not sure in this case (you should be okay). Either way, I'm sorry the rollup didn't help, I'll have to do some more research on this issue. Meanwhile I did find this site that might be helpful:

You probably have a driver that has either really bad PM support or none at all. Does the eventlog say anything?

Irrelevant, there's a lot of differences in the driver model between the two. Are you using any XP drivers in Vista? That might be a problem.

Unless Windows does something pretty dumb monitor drivers aren't real drivers, they're just inf files with the supported resolutions and refresh rates of the monitor. You really shouldn't even need them these days since every monitor sold in the last like 15 years or more supports querying it's capabilities via DDC.

well it mostly installs a color profile...anyway uninstall 'em...its not due to it...

But i've found something other which may have caused this, in my BIOS it was set "Plug and Play Aware OS" as No, can it be causing it, though setting it yes dosen't help either, but I've read you have to reinstall the OS for changes of this setting to take place, atleast that's true for older windows...

Anyways, I'm pretty much fed up trying to fix issue, guess i'll wait for Vista Sp1 beta...hopefully it'll fix it..

PNP OS just tells the BIOS whether or not to setup some of the hardware's resources before the OS boots, I think Windows will reconfigure whatever it needs to if you have it set to no so it shouldn't change anything.

^^Ok thanx for clearin that up :)

BTW finally found out what was wrong with my system...turns out for having S3 Sleep, you have to switch USB jumpers on motherboard from +5V to +5VSB, now both hibernate and sleep work just fine :D

Thanx for the help guys...

No I have Intel p965 chipset based motherboard (ASUS P5B), however it is possible that your motherboard may also require such a change. Basically motherboard manufactures set jumper to +5V default because setting it to +5VSB, requires the PSU to provide 500mA current to every USB port, which may not be possible with every PSU and the system won't power up.

Check you're motherboard's manual..

I think I have finally solved this issue...system tools> device manager> system devices> high definition audio. The "allow this device to wake computer" was checked. I cleared the box and it slept fine last night.

Tasks were performed and the system went back to sleep on its own.

Thanks for all of your assistance:cookie:
