hi why does 7800gt not work with a8n-sli mobo?

i got an xfx 7800gt card and upgraded from a 6800nu. windows would not boot with the 7800gt, putting the 6800 back in worked just fine. tried new powersupplies, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled windows, no success. running latest bios

figured the card was bad.

bought a new evga 7800gt. exact same problem. the computer dies when it tries to go into windows (dies = power stays on, screen goes black, nothing happens)

any ideas why this board would hate 7800gt's?

Doh, didn't read your post itself. Hmm yeah, weird. You seem to have covered everything, but the A8N is quite a popular board. May just be the board itself. Have you tried putting the 6800 back in and seeing if it works?

Here's a long shot actually, but does the card have 2 DVI ports? If so, did you try the other?

When you said you reinstalled windows, were you able to reinstall it with the 7800?

You try updating the BIOS? I never used 7800GT but on one of my systems, I have a 7800GTX installed on the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo without any problems.

power is plugged in appropriately to both cards. i used the same powersupply in another machine and it worked fine. bios is latest. tried both dvi ports. does not work in safe mode

Both cards? You have two 7800GT or just one?

Wait... did you only try the PSU in another machine... or did you replace the PSU with a different one in this machine? Just because the PSU works in another machine, doesn't necessarily mean it's got enough juice to work in this one.
