HI-Val Modem Question

I recently bought a cheap modem from circut city made by Hi-Val. It is acting kinda strange some times it will take a 30 - 40 second break and just sit then it continue as usual I thought that it was the isp but none of my other computers will do it. some of the time it will work fine. Any sugestions would be great
