I have a P4 2.8c and am using a MSI PT880 neo-fsr motherboard. I was wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of a good guide or instructions on how to overclock this cpu. Im only looking for small gains, i dont want to go crazy. I took a look in my bios, and i can mess with fsb speed , dram voltage, etc. But cpu ratio ( or something) is locked, and i can not unlock it. Oh yea , i have 2 Gb pc3200 dual channel ram kit.

ok, the cpu ratio if im not mistaken is their name for the mulitplier, your multi should be locked at 14... mulit * RAM speed (not fsb which equals RAM speed*4 in your case) = clock speed

what you want to do is to first download Prime95 and memtest

try to increase your ram from 200 to 210 and then see if that boots into windows. Keep going up until you cant go any higher then dial it back slowly... so if you went up 5-10 MHz at a time back yourself down 1-2 MHz at a time. Once you get back to the point where the system will boot to OS, run Prime95 and see how long it will go for. if it lasts 12-24 hours+ then your system is stable at those speeds and voltages and you ave reached your best stable OC at those voltages.

If you are satisfied with that performance leave it that way... if you now have the bug and want to keep pushing it then bump your voltage on your RAM first to see if that will let you go higher more stably.

You will also want to download Speedfan or something similiar so you can monitor temps while you are doing this since OCing will drive up the temperatures. Also if you want to see what gains you are getting simply run your preferred benchmark before and after the OC and compare the scores.

Dont hesitate if you have any more questions
