hi all. greetings

i have recently purchased an X-fi xtreme gamer (didn't do enough research before i made the choice....would have gone for the EMU 0404 or M-audio......next rig maybe). right now i'm using a pair of cheapo creative 2.0 speakers and i would like to get some new ones so i could take the advantage of my soundcard. i have some in mind but don't know which one to pick.

- Accoustic Energy Aego M
- AL FX 6021
- AL MX 5021
- Klipsch ProMedia 2.0

i know seperates are always better, but my desk doesn't have enough space for an amp and bookshelves. budget isn't a problem. i game, listen to music and watch movies and i do prefer something that has stronger bass. also need help on what output to use on my soundcard.

thanks a lot!!

I've read very good things about the Swan M200 monitors. I think others here on this forum actually have some experience with them, so hopefully they can tell you more about them.

If space is a problem, those probably aren't the best choice ;)

There is a dealer in HK, but I don't know if they carry the M200

sweet~~
i will defo call them up see if i could test them out first.

Testing them out would be a very good idea

The only part that worries me is the "stronger bass" part. These will tend to have tight, clean bass, but not the loud boomy bass that more traditional high power 2.1 computer speaker sets tend to have. If you're after more bass extension, you could certainly add in a subwoofer to these and get a fuller frequency specturm.

Check out Bose speakers. They have a surround sound system that costs about 2k, but they sound sweet. Can't go wrong with Bose imo. Circuit City used to have them set up in the store; they may still have, I haven't been there in a while.

I think these are the ones they had on display, the Acoustimass 10 and Acoustimass 16 speakers.

But it seems space is a premium for you, so maybe these would be more what you need.

Bose generally is not recommended around these parts. I'm surprised you're not getting flamed right now.
To put it simply, Bose is overpriced. They're the Monster Cables of speakers.

Well if you really think that the swans aren't that big, then most any affordable bookshelf speakers with 6.5" woofers would probably work for you.

nah, don't go with bose :p but if ya want more bass, try out a set of klipsch promedia 2.1's with the separate sub...you can always throw the sub in the corner or under your desk

I'm not sure what you mean by "different Hz in the music format"

You mean like 44.1kHz?

yup.

like i see different speakers produce different ranges of Hz; soundcard capable of decoding different ranges of Hz; and mp3 with different Hz.
do they have any relationship???

as for Klipsch 2.1, can't find them here, also they are stopped already. i did see the 2.0 though.

Nope, if you're talking about the sound card 44.1kHz type of frequency, the speakers will have no effect/limit on that.

Though there are exceptions, I think that for desktop speakers you'll do much better with a 2.1 set (2 satellites and a sub) than with a 2.0 set. There's gotta be a way to put the sub under your desk or something.

I recently picked up a pair of the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0 and have been pretty pleased with them. I can't stand the boomy bass that 2.1 computer speakers (or at least the ones that I've tried) have, so these are perfect for me. They have enough bass to add good depth to music, but it isn't so much that it overpowers the mid and high range. I've heard great things about the Swan M200 as well.

The speaker frequency range is going to be all the frequencies the speakers can produce well. +/- 3dB ratings is the standard way to measure "real" speakers, with computer speakers often using different ways to measure... or just having 20Hz-20kHz stamped on them. The +/- 3dB rating will give you an indication of the upper and lower limits for the frequencies it produces before it starts having reduced output.

The kHz ratings on music and soundcards is indicating the sample rate of the material.

my vote goes to M-Audio LX4's which are a 2.1 system with great quality sound thats loud and clear with enough bass to satisfy a gamer. i got them from samash for $200+tax. The swan m200's would probably sound better but without a subwoofer, you probably wouldn't be satisfied with the lower end
