Hi everyone

Ive been in the forum for about two weeks asking advice and learning about how to quieten my computer. This is my new ordered setup and was wondering if you could give your opinion on it

Case is ANTEC SONATA

Northbridge cooler is ZALMAN ZM-NB47J

CPU Heatsink is NEXUS AXP-3200 Quiet Athlon XP CPU

And thermal grease is ARCTIC SILVER

If anything is not recommende please let me know as Ill exchange it, and also are all parts compatible? Im not great on hardware so any advice would really help

Cheers

CFM means Cubic Feet per Minute. That measures how much airflow the fan has. On a processor you want as much as you can get because the higher the airflow, the better the cooling. If your fan has too little CFM for the processor and heatsink your processor might overheat.

The heatsink certainly looks alright. Unfortunately, looks really don't tell the story (kind of like cars, might look good, but have a pisspoor engine, crappy seats, and a tendency to explode).

Should be fine though, what processor are you running? It says it's rated up to Ahlon XP 3400, though I wouldn't run something like that at the limit (i.e. actually putting a 3400 under it).

The Zalman heatsink should do the job nicely...

The Sonata is a great case, comes with an excellent power supply. Remember that the psu (power supply unit) with it has two fan only connectors, which will control speeds based on the psu temperature (but only use these for case fans, not the CPU/northbridge/graphics card fans).

You will probably want to pick up a second 120 mm fan for the front fan spot, but honestly, I would recommend seeing what your temps are with just the one fan in the rear that comes with the case. Temps don't have to be superlow, especially since you are going with an emphasis on quiet.

One thing, go to arctic silver's website, and print out their directions before dismantling everything. If you haven't installed a new heatsink and thermal grease before, just go slow and careful and follow the directions. Doublecheck yourself, remember not to work on a carpet, put your motherboard on a table...might want to buy a static wrist strap at a local computer store too (cheap <$10), just for extra precaution.

Good luck with it, your computer should definitely be quieter after all this...
