first system specs, according to AIDA32:

mobo: Asus A7v266-e/aa
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 2000 MHz (7.5 x 267) 2400+
CPU Alias Thoroughbred-B
ram: 1024mb ddr sdram

i realize that my mobo is dated, but i have to work with what i have. im not trying to overclock, which is why im bringing my cooling question here.
so to my question/problem: according to both MBM5 and AIDA32 my cpu is running at 50-53 degrees cel. at idle!
now i have searched around this forum, and others, for solutions to my problem. I have tried three different heatsink/fan combos which included the following, Coolermaster HS with copper core, Thermaltake Volcano 10+, and the stock heatsink/fan that came with my processor. Ive reseated every heatsink at least twice, and each time my processor is running at 50-53 degrees at idle :(. I have three case fans, and two powersupply fans (antec 550w setup), which i have tried in all sorts of arrangements.

with my friend who is a regular overclocker, we have looked at the bios and havent tweaked a darn thing. but i took some notes for you all to consider...

when i set the processor manually, to 2000mhz, i set it to settings ive seen online, 15x multiplier with 133/33 mem. however when i let the mobo dictate the settings for 2000 mhz, it goes to 20x multiplier with 100/?? (forgot the setting here). oh and my vcore is set to 1.65 on the mobo (automatic) but MBM5 is reporting its at 1.74.

i know this is a lot to read, and i thank you for taking time to read this and help me :-D

Blake, try lowering your vcore a bit. If it becomes unstable, you can raise it back up, but if it doesn't, it will run cooler. Also, different motherboards report different temps for the same processor and heatsink, so more than likely you're fine, as long as it isn't crashing or rebooting with no apparent reason.

thanks for the reply :)

only problem with my mobo is that the current setting for the vcore, 1.65, is the lowest setting on the mobo. the next step is 1.675 and then into the 1.7's and 1.8's.

You could just have the 1.65v tbred-b. If I were you, just to make sure, get the lastest BIOS to ensure that all the voltage options are available to you.
