thankyou for readin this thread, ahh it`s good to b at a place where the knwoledge is flowing :)) hello 2 all, and thanx cooool forums...
i am just ready to buy and build a new workstation for myself: DVD/CD burining, video editing, office apps, multitasking, i am not really into games neither will i be doing any video capute. i wish to overclock as much as possible with a P4 2.4 or 2.53 as my CPU ;) also essential is that i include a Promise Fasttrack TX2 100 PCI RAID card in the setup. i wanna run WINXP PRO on as fast a IDE setup as possible, RAID 0 perhaps and have an archive option, i was thinking ghost image or the like on a separate drive, so amybe buy 3 or even 4 hard disks ? i don`t have a budget (anything feasable can b bought, this is a major purchase that will hopefully last me for a while ;-) i have already purchased a few essentials to start off with. i am after speed, power and quality. here is what i have so far / what i am running now after purchasing a few things, case, psu and all rounded ata133 cables for the inside ;)

Case: Lian-Li 6089 Aluminium
Motherboard: Sypermicro P3SCD Inter 820 Camino
CPU: Intel P3 933 133FSB
Cooler: Thermaltake GoldenOrb
RAM: 512MB PC133 Samsung SDRAM Cas 2
PSU: Enermax Active PFC 430Watt
RAID Controller: Promise FastTrack Ultra ATA 100 TX2 PCI
GFX: Matrox G400 MAX 32MB
CD-RW: Plextor 40/12/40A
DVD-ROM: Pioneer DVD-ROM 106S 16x
DVD-R: Pioneer A04 DVD-RW
KB/ Mouse: Microsoft Wireless for BlueTooth
Monitor: Nokia Multigraph 19"
HDD: 2x IBM 60GXP 100ATA on RAID 0

what I THINK i am after/gonna buy:

CPU: Intel P4 2.4/2.53 Ghz C1 Malay
Cooler: Thermaltake Volcano 7 Plus on Artic Silver
RAM: Corsair Platinum Series XMS3500 434MHz CL-2 512MB DDR
Motherboard: ASUS 8GSX
HDD: 2/3/4 x Western Digital WD2000JB Caviar 200GB UDMA100
GFX: undecided.
KB/ Mouse: Microsoft Wireless for BlueTooth

hope i have made everything as clear as possible so any1 can answer easy ;) basically i would like to combine the pci raid card and maybe the mard drives as well into my new pc, but for the extra space i could easily jst fitch that idea and go for the WD JB`s. i at present run a 2x 80gb ibm raid 0 config with a 20gb partition for my os and apps and a 100gb for my server/backup. the supermicro does not have onboard raid so iam happily using the promise pci card for raid 0. i am quite hapy with the performance for a p3 933 computer ;) but the time has come to upgrade, over the last few years i have managed to emigtate my brain from the mac and amiga`s ;0 lol and onto the pc, have also built around 6 pc`s for the friends and family ;) u know how it is - so no wories about ability ;P
i was thinking maybe running 2 drives for raid 0 on the new pc with 1 for ghost image or such ? or MAYBE.... go for the 4 hdd`s ?? o am unsure. i am gonna use what i can from old setup and put the rest to a good pc for my father so i am easy with what i buy new and what i keep, this is the cool thing, probably so i can justify buyin all the new stuff ;P this is gonna b my main new pc that is why i bought the lian-li case and a quality psu ;) i ain`t gonna skimp on quality. have been reading on the mobo, cpu and overclock forums to get the info on all the latest to where i am now

i have been very impressed with the THUGS review of various P4 setups :) i am aiming to push my P4 the same way so ot is essential that i get the P4 CPU i am looking for in the UK.
Q252 = Malay '02 week52 - found this from my reading, i gotta b sure i get a good P4 2.4 or 2.53, does it matter ? with a C1 core ?

where in the UK would i buy my P4 from to ensure that care had been taken and i could trust the CPU to overclock, what do i ask for on the phone ?? this is my biggest concern and hopefully sum1 here can help ;)

so plz gimme advice and anything else i could use ;) lol and i shoul;d b able to get this up and running this week and have an eye on my fathers pc for next week ;)

cheers all for da help ;)

I heard the bluetooth mouse isn't very good.

hahah i counted 10 wink icons

you might want to consider a different cpu cooler, isnt the volcano 7 fairly loud?

EDIT: come to think of it, isnt it a amd cooler, also?
edit2: ah, actually it is amd/intel. go figure.

nah human2k i am a Intel junkie i`m afraid and 2 cpu`s, well nah definetely Intel and just the 1 cpu: either 2.4b or 2.53b so i can pump it up with my corsair ram to hopefully 3.4Ghz with RAM munning at higest poss.

wfbberzerker - how many ;-) lololol !! thanx also for the info, insead of the volcano 7 plus, what other cooler is the best money can buy, i don`t mibnd paying a lot for good quality.

what would i ask for over the phone regards geting the corect P4 for my purpose, would the promise raid card work ok with the mobo i may buy, any pros and cons >?

I'm in the planning stage of a new main rig, I'm thinking a 865PE Asus board (with SATA raid and Gigabit) with a 2.8 GHz/800 FSB Prescott. May's not that far away and I really want hyperthreading and at least a little bit of an upgradeability. What you're outlineing has none of those features.
