"hey you" virus help

My friend is dumb and opened a zip file through her AOL mail and so now she has the "hey you" virus in her system? she can't access her AOL now as it freezes whenever she starts it up, plus she has to hard shut down to turn the system off at all. is she cool to leave her system on at all, or is this virus one of those that continuously eats away at her RAm and crap? is there any way to destroy the virus? i searched around on symantec's site, but i couldn't find anything...
