I know there's quite a few of you on here, and I was wondering what you thought of customers who pay their tip with their credit card when ordering for delivery? Do you like that or just prefer cash?
I always pay my tip on my credit card when I place the order.. I figure that way the delivery guy knows what he's getting (I tip the greater of $3.00 or 20%) so they know how slow or fast they want to get here.
Then I thought that since they know they are already getting a decent tip that it doesn't matter if they take their time or not? Unless of course they want to keep getting 20% that is.
Also, how do you get paid when the customer tips on the CC? Do you have to wait for a paycheck or do you get it at the end of your shift?

When I delivered for a few years, I didn't really mind.

We would take the money out of our bank at the end of the night, or we would be paid a lump sum of tips at the end of the week, depending on which place I worked at.

I don't deliver any more, but I'll answer the questions using my experience from a couple years ago.

Either way, cash or credit (or included in a check), I didn't really have a preference. I guess just for the sake of ease in counting up the money at the end of the night, having it attached to a credit card or check was easier. Most times when I had a credit card order, they never put any tip on until I got there, so I never knew if I was going to get one or not.

As for getting paid if the tip is on the CC, it all comes out as cash in the end. We started with our bank that we used to make change. The computer kept track of how much we owed at the end of the night for all the orders we delivered that day. Everything was added up (cash, checks, and credit cards), and we kept what was left.

My friend said he lovvvvvvvvved credit card tips because they would come in his paycheck/direct deposit. That way he wouldnt be likely to spend it. Cash he said had a way of disappearing fast.

CC users are generally less stingy with tips than cash customers- so feel free 🙂

My CC tips came in at the end of the night.

I never paid tax on any tips, CC or cash or otherwise. I always claimed that I received zero in tips. The system was too primitive to cross reference. Also, when I noticed that it was a CC order I ALWAYS went ahead and checked to see if the tip was included already. If the tip was decent and already added into the CC receipt then generally I would bring the order as quickly as possible to the customer.

I think you are doing a good thing by going ahead and tipping well before hand. If the driver is a moron, the driver is a moron and you aren't going to be able to affect that anyway. If the driver has any kind of sense then he will bring you the order ASAP each and every time you include the decent tip into the bill before-hand.
