althought the MSRP is a lil high. im pretty sure it will be a decent card none the less.
This is what x1600 should of been.
however i think they shoulda named it x1700
cuz now the x1300XT is basicly a x1600 and the x1650 is different all together.
hope it overclocks well too and have software voltmods.

The card they should have released in the first place, the x1600pro/xt was/is garbage for the price bracket they were aiming at :(

Until actual prices drop to well below MSRP, it's a silly card to get. For ~$50 more, you can get a card (X1900XT 256MB) that absolutely crushes the card, and is one of the best values out there. But if prices can drop to low 100's it will be a good card to get :D .

ATI and Nvidia have done a good job releasing cards that are 90% of what their top cards provide but for much less money: the X1900XT (256MB) and the 7950GT. Competition is great :D .

Yeah, had this card been released originally instead of the x1600xt, it would have been a nice card for under $200. And I also think they should have named it the x1700 to make it less confusing, because it's about 2x as fast as the Pro version.

prob not. but u never know. ati shoulda deliever another agp card....... nvidia did with that 7800gs 512 card or what ever.

Yes, it appears there will be an ATI X1650XT AGP; it's slated for release on October 17, with the rv560 chip.

I'm guessing that pricing will be similar to the 7600gt. I also read that Nvidia will be introducing a 7650, but am unsure what its advantages will be.

Yes, the nomenclature is a bit confusing, but this new X1650xt is said to be the fastest AGP card, made to date and that's all that matters to me.

Glad to see that there are some new AGP options coming out. I know you've had a bit of a struggle lining up the right card Dr J, here's hoping it all works out well for you.

You're right that the Gainward BLISS 7900GS+ is the fastest AGP card you can get as it has 24-pipes and 512MB of GDDR3 but you have to order it from the U.K. and it's expensive!:)

I would definately be interested in an X1650XT in AGP for under $200. I need this computer to last me a bit longer - The wife decided that buying a larger house was more important than upgrading the computer! :p

Those are getting harder to find and we'd miss out on a bunch of new features - sm3, avivo, possible HDCP support, dual link DVI. For 1280x1024 it should be a nice card at a resonable price for those who don't have an easy upgrade path to PCIe. (Like me ;) )

I guess most want the newer AGP cards to have Shader Model 3.0 support and maybe avivo, which the x800-x850 series do not have.


Edit: I had this thread open to long and didn't refresh it to see the x800 question was already answered. :)

The ATI X1650Pro is supposed to come in at $99.00, although I find this difficult to believe (time will tell). If this is the case, however, it's one of the very least expensive options, less than an X800 or X850 and it is true, my order for the X800XT was cancelled because all the stock sold out.

I'd be satisfied, though, with the X1650XT AGP. From all I've read, though, October 17th is the official shipping date, and Sept. 14th for the X1650Pro AGP.

Hmm, with a core clock of only 450 the "fastest ever" moniker is looking dubious. It would have to be uber efficient to beat the 7600GT, nevermind the 7800GS+. We can dream... but maybe they mean reference production card rather than Leadtek or Gaywad's custom designs.
