hey... can anyone help.. i have an aureal sound card... that i purchased bout 2 years ago... it came in a box with sq1500 on it... but the cd said.. sq2500... and even tho... i acquired a sq1500 cd.. the drivers didnt work... but the drivers on the sq2500 cd did (win 98) but now on my win2k machine... the sound stalls(winamp plays for a few seconds and seems to die...no sound... but not program not crashed... ) and i was trying to get some new drivers... but dont know what to get... so please help... if you have any answers... thanks... boocoo...🙂

look at the back of the card for a part number then do a search online for that part number and see what comes up...
if you post it here and i am around i will help you figure it out...

hey... i just checked my sound card... and it has the label on it (sorrie i never would have guessed) and it said that is a vortex 2 sq2500 model... but one more thing... if it is the sq2500 model... it should have 512 wavetable sounds... according to vortexofsound.com... but... i remembered... that when i was in win 98... it said... only 128 or 256 wavetable sounds... how can i check in win2k how many sound i have??? (just be to sure).... thanks for the advice...socrplyr

sorry i don't know that info but good to see you got it figured out... i wouldn't really worry about it... if you have the correct drivers in there now and it is working fine i'd just leave it alone... to many times i have broken working things by mucking around... hehe... i wouldn't want you to do the same...

I have the exact fix for the vortex 2 problems in win2k. If the sound starts, then stops, and wont play again till you reboot, I have the solution. Please email me since Im at work right now and Ill send you the file when I get home.

You can probably find out which chipset is used on your soundcard by looking at the numbers on the chip on the card. I believe 8820 is vortex1, 8810 is vortex advantage and 8830 is vortex2. You can get drivers here.
